Thanksgiving week is here. Between travel plans, turkey timers, and that one relative who “doesn’t like anything too sweet,” cocktails can feel like one more thing to stress about. Not this year. I’ve got you covered with a simple batched-cocktail game plan so your bar basically runs itself while you actually hang with your people.
In this edition of the Witty Cocktail Club, you’re getting:
- 3 pro moves to make Thanksgiving hosting easier & way less stressful
-
My 2 go-to Thanksgiving punch recipes (with exact shopping lists)
-
A make-ahead timeline so you’re not shaking cocktails while the turkey comes out

Three Hosting Power Moves for a Smoother Thanksgiving
These are the tiny tweaks that make a huge difference in how your night feels.
Power Move #1: Make the Bar Self-Serve (But Clear)
Set up a little “House Punch Station” so people instantly know what to do.
-
Put one punch on each side of the station if you can (light & bubbly vs strong & cozy)
-
Add a simple sign:
Don't worry I made you the signs + a Canva Template -
Keep the cups/glasses, ice, and ladle right there so no one has to ask you how it works.
You become the host who designed the experience, not the bartender stuck behind the counter.
Power Move #2: Batch Ahead So You’re Not Bartending All Night
Thanksgiving is not the night to be shaking drinks to order. Future you will love that you did this part early.
-
Mix everything except bubbles the day before.
For sparkling drinks, batch the base (spirits + juices + sweetener) and keep it in the fridge. Add Prosecco/soda right before serving. -
Build in the water.
For stirred/boozy or non-bubbly punches, add a little water into the batch so you don’t need to shake or stir every single drink with ice. The bourbon apple punch already has this baked in. -
Chill, don’t dilute.
Store your batched mix in the coldest part of the fridge. The colder it is, the less extra ice melt you’ll get in the bowl. -
Transfer, garnish, done.
When it’s go time, you’re just:-
pouring the cold batch into the punch bowl,
-
adding bubbles if needed,
-
tossing in garnishes.
Total “setup” time: like 2 minutes, max.
-
Power Move #3: Have an Ice Plan
Nothing kills a great cocktail faster than sad, wet ice...or you know, water.
-
Buy extra ice: way more than you think. A good rule: 1–2 lb of ice per drinking guest.
-
Use one large bowl or pot just for ice with its own scoop.
-
For the punch bowl, use either:
-
A big clear block of ice (frozen in a mixing bowl or bundt pan like this)
-
Lots of larger cubes so it stays cold without turning watery.
-
Your drinks stay cold, your guests stay happy, and you’re not sprinting to the freezer every 10 minutes.

Apple Spiced Bourbon Punch (Serves 20-25 drinks)
RECIPE:
-
24 oz bourbon (≈ one 750 ml bottle)
-
48 oz apple cider
-
16 oz lemon juice
-
12 oz maple or cinnamon simple
-
16 oz cold water
- Cinnamon Sticks for garnish
How to prep & serve
Add all your liquid ingredients to an airtight container (glass not plastic). You can do this up to 3 days ahead of time so you are ready to go!
Once you are ready to serve pour the chilled cocktail in a punch bowl, pitcher, or whatever serving vessle you love most.
Have an ice bucket near.
Place a glass, stack, or ramekin filled cinnamon stick for garnish.
Place your cocktail sign next to it.

Cranberry Orange Sparkling Punch
Vibe: Bright, festive, crowd-pleaser. This is the “welcome drink” that looks gorgeous on the table.
